Knowing About Landlord Responsibilities

One of the great benefits enjoyed by tenants is that they are not the ones tasked with maintaining the overall condition of a property. It is actually the landlord who must deal with and resolve these issues. However, this does not mean that tenants are completely free from any responsibilities. Taking the time to know exactly what the landlord is responsible for and what he is not would let the tenants know what their share of the work is.

An important responsibility that a landlord must look after is the safety of the building. This includes all the different parts of the structure such as the roofs, walls, floors, and stairs. The landlord must also ensure that the various systems are functioning properly. The electrical, heating, and plumbing systems must work as they should so that the tenants would be able to live comfortably in their units. The landlord is in charge of minor repairs and maintenance work in order to make sure that the building stays in tip-top shape and he is also responsible for ensuring that the property complies with the safety rules and standards set by the government.

Furthermore, should a tenant violate any of the rules in the contract, it is the landlord’s job to notify the tenant about it. He must send them a written notice and keep a copy of it for his records. When a tenant must be evicted, then he is the one who must do it and make sure that the proper eviction process is strictly followed. In addition, the landlord is the person whom the tenants can approach whenever they have a complaint or problem about the property or their neighbours.
