ENGLISH
General English
Our English courses are perfect if you want to enjoy a good level of practical
language skills. Whether you are planning to work or study in the UK, prepare
for university in English-speaking countries, or simply refresh your skills, we
will provide you with everything you need to learn English quickly and
confidently.
Lessons are available for all abilities from
beginner to expert. Qualified teachers will help you to develop listening,
speaking, pronunciation and vocabulary skills at each level. Excellent library
facilities, regular teacher feedback and a busy social programme mean that you
will be able to practice your English at every opportunity.
You can start any Monday and study from 1 week to 1 academic year.
Conversation and Pronunciation
Our conversation and pronunciation classes are designed to improve your fluency
and pronunciation, widen your vocabulary and help you to speak confidently in
everyday situations. During the course, you will learn how to understand and
contribute to different kinds of academic, social and workplace conversations.
You will also practice valuable techniques including agreeing, disagreeing,
interrupting, suggesting, gestures and using humour.
You can start any Monday and study from 1 week to 8
weeks. This is also available as one-to-one sessions.
Academic Year Programmes
This long term programme allows you to cover a comprehensive range of English
language skills over one academic year. It is ideal for beginners, advanced user
and students who wish to prepare thoroughly for work or study in the UK. It can
be combined with other courses.
One-to-One Training
This intensive, flexible programme aims to develop your general or specialist
English skills. The programme is personalised and focuses on your individual
learning objectives.
C AMBRIDGE
EXAMINATIONS
Cambridge First Certificate (FCE)
This course prepares you for taking the Cambridge First Certificate in English
examination. This is an examination at an intermediate level, requiring
competence in all the language skills. It is widely recognised in commerce and
industry - and by educational institutions in Britain and overseas - as proof of
language ability at an intermediate level. Course areas include reading,
writing, speaking, listening and use of English skills. This course gives you
comprehensive tuition and practice to prepare you thoroughly for all parts of
your final examinations. There is monthly counseling to monitor your progress.
You can start any Monday.
Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English
(CAE)
This course thoroughly prepares you for taking the Cambridge Certificate in
Advanced English examination. This examination is suitable for people who
require English for professional or study purposes. It is recognised by many
British universities as fulfilling English Language entrance requirements. Your
final exam consists of five papers which will test your reading, writing,
listening, speaking and use of English skills at an advanced level. You will be
supervised by experienced EFL teachers throughout your course. You can start any
Monday.
Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English
(CPE)
This course prepares you thoroughly for taking the Cambridge Certificate in
Proficiency (CPE) Examination. This advanced level examination is recognised as
fulfilling English language requirements by British universities and for
business and academic purposes overseas. The CPE examination has five
components: Reading Comprehension, Listening Comprehension, Composition, Use of
English and Interview. Experienced tutors will guide you through all examination
areas and monitor your progress. You can start any Monday.
T RINITY
EXAMINATIONS
Trinity College London ESOL Spoken Examinations
This specialist examination in spoken English is used by candidates, tutors and
employers to measure progress and development in spoken English skills.
Examinations are offered at 12 levels from beginner to advanced. You can start
any Monday.
B RITISH
UNIVERSITY FOUNDATION
English for IELTS
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Examination tests your
ability to use academic English. It is accepted for university entrance in the
UK and other international schools where English is required. Our students also
receive free information and advice on selecting appropriate courses and
universities from British University Placements (BUP).
B USINESS
ENGLISH
English for Business Success
The world does business in English. This programme offers comprehensive
training in essential business language skills. The training is highly
practical. It addresses key communication areas through a powerful combination
of professional training methods, the latest business resources and a strong
focus on understanding Western business culture. Programmes run throughout the
year and you may start any Monday.
English for Executives
This intensive training programme has been devised for the modern business
executive. It offers fast-track training in core business language skills that
focus on the candidate’s own business role. Course content is fully personalised
to the candidate’s needs and covers advanced communication skills. It is
delivered on a one-to-one basis with a fully qualified language trainer. You may
train for any length of time and blend your learning with your work schedule.
English for BEC (Cambridge Business English Certificates)
BEC examination courses are suitable for individuals wanting to gain a
business-related English language qualification. There are three levels of
examination designed to test English language ability used in the context of
business - BEC Preliminary, BEC Vantage and BEC Higher. Your tuition will
prepare you for the written, spoken, listening and comprehension skills that
will be tested at each level. Examinations take place on fixed dates each year.
Please ask for details. These examinations also provide an ideal basis for
studying Business or Executive English courses in the future.
LCCIEB Spoken English for Industry & Commerce
(SEFIC)
Spoken English for Industry and Commerce (SEFIC) examinations are designed to
meet the spoken business language requirements of candidates whose first
language is not English.
SEFIC examinations are highly practical one-to-one interviews that assess a
candidate’s ability to communicate in both a social and work environment. They
are set by the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry Examinations Board (LCCIEB).Exams
are available throughout the year and offered at 5 levels - Preliminary Level
plus First, Second, Third and Fourth Levels. Different skills are tested at each
level.
LCCI Written English for Tourism Second Level
(WEFT)
Tourism is one of the world’s fastest growing employment sectors. The WEFT
award, offered by the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry Examinations Board
(LCCIEB), is aimed at people working or planning to work in tourism. The WEFT
examination includes tasks that are based on authentic situations and reflect on
language issues based on common tourism information such as booking forms, maps,
timetables and brochures. Examinations are available at two levels and can be
taken throughout the year.
P ROFESSIONAL
COURSES
English for International Tourism
This course is aimed at those working - or intending to work - in the tourism
industry where English is used. You will increase your ability to communicate
confidently and skillfully in a range of situations encountered in the
international tourism industry. You can choose to study for any length of time
from 1 to 8 weeks, and each week can be taken as an independent unit. To join
this course you will need an Upper Intermediate or higher level of English. New
courses start every Monday.
English for the Arts
This course develops your ability to understand and use a wide range of English
vocabulary to talk about the Arts in the UK. Every Friday you will go on a
London Arts trip with your teacher and visit galleries that have free admission.
You do not need to have any knowledge of the Arts before you begin the course.
You can choose to study from between 1 and 4 weeks, starting any Monday. To join
this course you will need an Upper Intermediate or higher level of English.
English through Literature
In this course you will use literature as a basis for developing a wide range of
vocabulary and grammar, reading skills and knowledge and appreciation of
literature in English. You do not need to have any knowledge of literature
before the course. Before the course students complete an initial needs
analysis. This allows us to create a personalised course programme focused on
your objectives. You can choose how many lessons you want to take. During your
course, we guarantee intensive learning, with maximum attention and total
flexibility.
English for Lawyers
This intensive, flexible course is for practising lawyers and those intending to
work in the legal profession. Tuition is personalised to meet your specific
learning needs. Components include specialist vocabulary plus listening,
speaking and writing skills for legal contexts. Tuition is available on a
one-to-one basis or in small groups.
English for British Culture
This intensive, flexible course focuses on modern British culture. You will
learn about British history and traditions whilst developing specialised
vocabulary around those topics. The programme is personalised to meet your
objectives. Tuition is available on a one-to-one basis or in small groups.
E NGLISH
PLUS COURSES
English Plus Computing & IT
Our English Plus Computing courses give you the opportunity to combine any
English course with a wide range of computer training for both beginners and IT
professionals. You can choose from full or part-time courses that cover all
levels of skills from computer basics to Website design. All of our full-time
computer courses meet the Home Office requirements for visa applications. Our
college is a registered centre for training and examinations from Microsoft,
Oracle, Sun, CIW and many other leading hardware and software vendors.
English Plus Travel Training
This innovative course allows you to combine any Intermediate or Advanced
English course with any Travel Training course. This offers the ideal choice for
students wishing to gain practical English skills and embark upon a variety of
roles within the travel and tourism industry in the UK and worldwide. Your
training will prepare you for many popular international qualifications
including: IATA Fares & Ticketing, Galileo Computer Reservation System; British
Airways Worldspan, Amadeus and Sabre. To join this course you will need an Upper
Intermediate or higher level of English.
