All students can use the Multimedia Centre with
access to the Internet, the chance to send and receive e-mails and study by
themselves absolutely free of charge.
Use of the Library and Self-Access Listening
Centre is open to all students free of charge.
Students also have a good programme of visits,
sports, activities and excursions organised by our Social Organiser. Many of the
events are free and the excursions are at reasonable extra charge. Courses for
Younger Students and Retired Students have an inclusive social programme.
Reception at London airports and/or transfer to
Exeter can be arranged at reasonable charge if required and in the summer months
we can meet students at Heathrow airport every Saturday.
All our courses have a maximum of 12 students per
class (maximum only 6 on Mini Group Intensive Courses).
All students have a writing, speaking, reading
and listening test on the first day of their course and there are classes at
different levels on all courses.
All lessons are 45 minutes each
The International School is open all year except
for the following dates:
21st December 2002 until
5th January 2003,
18th & 21st April, 5th & 26th May,
25th August & from 20th December 2003 until 5th January 2004
TEACHING MATERIALS
The programme for General English
classes is usually based around one of the latest and best-planned course books
available for learners of English, backed up with supplementary materials and
videos from our Teacher Resources Bank.
Please note that as course books for adults vary considerably from level to
level they are not included in Adult course fees. Books for these courses can be
bought from Reception at reasonable cost (normally about £20.00). Materials or
books for Courses for Younger Students and Retired/Mature Students are included
in the fees.
REPORTS AND CERTIFICATES
Students will receive regular reports from the
School so that they or their sponsors can assess their progress and see their
strengths and weaknesses. At the end of the course all students receive a
certificate which shows the duration of their course and the level of English
reached during the course.
THE ACCOMMODATION
The School arranges homestay accommodation with selected English host families.
Accommodation is single room (unless you prefer to share with a friend), half
board (breakfast and evening meal) on weekdays and full board at weekends.
Packed lunches are available as an option in the summer.
The accommodation rate for 2003 is £90.00 per week. (A limited number of special
Executive families are also available for students following the Mini Group
Intensive and 1-1 Courses - see below). All our host families are well known to,
and inspected by, our Accommodation and Welfare Officer and are chosen for the
friendly welcome they provide. You have your own room and the family provides
all linen and will wash a reasonable amount of your clothes. Accommodation is
usually booked from lunchtime on the Saturday before course commencement until
lunchtime on the Saturday after it finishes. Arrival/departure on other days is
often possible. We can also arrange hotels or guest houses if preferred... but
its a lot more expensive and not so good for practising your English! Please
ask.
THE CITY
Exeter is a lively and particularly safe city of 100,000 people, recently voted as having the best quality of life. Study with us in our elegant Georgian buildings set in beautiful gardens away from the stress and pollution of other big cities. You will have access to a varied social programme of activities.
HOW TO GET TO EXETER
By Plane:
For students arriving at London Heathrow airport there are regular direct
National Express buses to Exeter. If you arrive at London Gatwick you may need
to change at Heathrow en route. Full information and reservations can be made on
www.gobycoach.com.
Exeter is little more than 2 hours
by train from London Paddington station so access from the other London airports
is quite fast and easy. On certain Saturdays in the summer months the School
operates its own bus service from Heathrow to Exeter. Please ask for details. In
all cases the School always recommends flights which arrive in UK in the morning
or early afternoon and leave again in the afternoon or evening.
There are now flights into Bristol
airport from a number of European destinations. Bristol is little over an hour
from Exeter and so very convenient. Please contact the School for the most
up-to-date information, ask your travel agent or look at
www.easyjet.com.
By Train:
For students travelling by Eurostar train to Waterloo station it is possible to
get a connecting rail service from Waterloo direct to Exeter. Otherwise fast
trains run to Exeter from London Paddington station.
By car:
For those travelling by car, Exeter can easily be reached on the M4 and M5
motorways or via Brittany Ferries sailings from Brittany and Normandy.
