Examinations are increasingly important
throughout the world and for many students a career requirement. We recognise
this and have developed our Cambridge Plus Courses bearing our students needs
in mind.
These courses, nine to thirteen weeks long, are held each term and offer
specific examination preparation in closed groups for students taking Cambridge
First Certificate or Cambridge Advanced English examinations. In the Winter Term
students can prepare for the First Certificate examination. In the Autumn Term
students can prepare for the Cambridge Proficiency examination.
Students who need longer than 12 weeks to
prepare for a Cambridge examination are more than welcome to join the Winter
English Plus programme for the June examinations or the Summer Intensive Course
programme for the December examinations. In this way they will get a good
grounding in General English before starting on the specific examination course
of their choice.
Many of our teachers are examiners for Cambridge examinations and this, together
with our intimate and extensive knowledge of these examinations, leads to
excellent examination pass rates.
Special Interest Groups are the same as for
English Plus courses.

These courses were introduced at the School in the 1980s. We now run two-week
and three-week courses in the Spring, Summer and early Autumn each year. The
courses offer an enjoyable way for participants to increase their knowledge of
English and at the same time get to know this beautiful part of England.
Participants study English each weekday morning and spend the afternoon and
weekends relaxing and enjoying our extensive social and excursion programme.
We offer multi-national classes at
levels from Elementary to Advanced, focusing on social English, British culture,
travel and tourism. Beginners are not accepted. There is a strong emphasis on
speaking and listening skills. A varied and interesting programme of social
activities in the afternoons and at weekends is included in the fees.
The objectives of our Fifty Plus
Courses are
to help participants to improve their understanding of spoken English
to increase their confidence in communicating in English
to extend their knowledge of the structures of English and its vocabulary
